About

Using this Site
This site was born out of the desire to catalogue the knowledge I have learned -and am still learning- throughout my studies of childhood development, educational theories, and other homeschooling information.
Within this site you will find articles regarding homeschooling methods, book reviews, popular curriculums, thoughts on homeschooling, scheduling, home management, family togetherness, and more.
About half of the articles and information contained within were written by me. Other articles were collected from around the internet from sites that give permission to reprint their homeschool articles. In those articles, you will find the original author’s information directly below the article itself, along with a link to that author’s website.
I also create free printables to giveaway to other homeschoolers - notebooking pages, journal pages, word searches, math charts, flashcards, worksheets and more.
Printables are created using clipart I have purchased a liscence for (courtesy of www.CountryClipart.com), built in Paint Shop Pro and Microsoft Word, and then transferred to PDF for easy download. It takes time to build a quality printable, so please respect my copyright and do not put them on other catalogue sites to download from. You can print them out for non-commercial use as much as you wish though.
My Background
My fascination with teaching began over 11 years ago. Although college took me along the Business Management route, I took it upon myself to study my passion “informally” through the reading of numerous books, self-study courses, books, seminars, and more books - a process which I now know to be “unschooling”.
Over the years my philosophy of education has developed to where I feel led to use my love of teaching in the best possible way - to train and educate my own children, instead of sending them off to a government-run institution.
Our firstborn son, Jack-Evan arrived on May 4, 2008 and I already consider him to be “schooling” in life. Although I was once heavily involved in the business management world, I am now blessed to be a “stay-at-home” mom. I consider myself very fortunate to be able to “train up” my own child “in the way he should go” each and every day. I am truly grateful that I will not have to miss any of his young formative years with trying to balance a stressful career and homelife simultaneously!
Jack-Evan is already growing and learning about life, culture, his heritage, language, history, and other needed skills. His education has already begun! You see, education is not just something we do for 8 hours a day, 9 months a year, between ages 6 and 18! Education is a way of life - a process that forever keeps on building upon itself, forming new capsules of knowledge within our mental circuitry each and every day. As Jack-Evan grows in our household, he will have the freedom to follow his interests to the fullest as well as the awesome benefit of one-on-one training in traditional subjects from those who love and know him best (his parents).
What this Site Is Not
This site is not a professional source or end-all-be-all.
As an avid reader, I believe in devouring as many books as possible on one’s topic of interest . For instance, I have already read 25+ books and various magazines on the topic of homeschooling alone and am still reading. I’ve scoured the internet for information, been in touch with our state’s Homeschool Association, spoken to real-life homeschool families, subscribed to dozens of homeschool family blogs, and physically reviewed the contents of various curriculum books (such as KONOS Unit Studies V. 1). YET, the more I read, the more I discover I don’t know.
Also, as I have not yet actually had a child in the typical homeschool age, I can not speak from daily experience. I know that simply reading about something will never take the place of actually experiencing it - but reading does help greatly in opening doors and widening the avenues of the mind.
So therefore, I simply speak from the experience of a dedicated mother who is determined to provide the best possible life experiences, thirst for learning, and “memories” for my chidren. The articles in this site are intended as a place to record what I have learned through research and to expound on my views of family life, motherhood, and quality home management. My views are very traditional…”old fashioned” as some might say…and I am also a conservative Christian. I feel that the Lord holds parents personally responsible for the ultimate education of our children, and as parents in Christ we must follow his commands to our utmost ability, whether that be full-time homeschooling, a Christian private school, or with active participation in your child’s public school education.
